PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The Bauerfeind SofTec® Genu is a multifunctional knee orthosis designed to provide active and passive stabilization of the knee joint, making it suitable for both short-term protection and long-term treatment. It is used in the management of ligament injuries, knee instability, osteoarthritis, and rehabilitation following surgery.

Its innovative construction combines rigid aluminum side splints with intelligent, anatomically adaptive joints to help stabilize the knee while supporting controlled movement. An integrated viscoelastic patellar pad with massaging nodules stimulates the surrounding tissue during movement, while the breathable, anatomically shaped SofTec® knitted fabric provides comfortable support and medical compression.

The orthosis is designed to help relieve pain, reduce excessive strain on the knee, and support functional rehabilitation while maintaining mobility within the prescribed range of motion.

Rehabilitation support: Suitable for conservative treatment, pre-operative and postoperative management, and long-term rehabilitation.

INDICATIONS

• Isolated rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), including complex ligament injuries such as the unhappy triad
• Conservative treatment of collateral ligament injuries
• Chronic knee instability and ligament insufficiency
• Severe knee osteoarthritis
• Rheumatoid arthritis, including progressive rheumatoid arthritis
• Secondary rehabilitation following knee endoprosthesis
• Post-traumatic knee conditions
• Restriction of knee range of motion following procedures such as meniscal suturing or meniscal implantation
• Pre-operative and postoperative knee stabilization
• Long-term rehabilitation and sports therapy, as directed by a healthcare professional

SIZING & FIT

• Measure the leg according to the official Bauerfeind SofTec® Genu sizing guide.
• Refer to the product measurement illustration to determine the appropriate size.
• Position the orthosis so that the hinged side splints align correctly with the knee joint.
• Secure the straps evenly to achieve a comfortable, stable fit without excessive pressure.
• Ensure the orthosis remains properly positioned during movement.
• Range-of-motion restrictions and lock-out settings should be configured according to the treating healthcare professional's instructions.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

• Hand wash the orthosis separately at 20–30°C using a mild detergent.
• Remove both hinged side splints before washing.
• To remove the splints, open the two thigh straps and pull the straps out of the plastic loops. Fold the strap ends back to secure them.
• Open the side pockets by pulling the hook-and-loop fastening areas aside, then carefully remove both splints.
• Note that the splints are anatomically shaped for their respective sides. Keep track of their original positions to ensure correct reassembly.
• Before washing, guide the straps back through the plastic loops and close all hook-and-loop fasteners to protect their fastening function.
• Allow the orthosis to dry naturally.
• Once dry, reinsert each hinged splint into its original side pocket, matching the colored markings on the splints with those on the inner pockets.
• Ensure the upper, color-coded section of each joint splint is positioned beneath the corresponding color-coded inner pocket, then close the side pockets.
• Never expose the orthosis to direct heat, including radiators or direct sunlight.
