PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The Bauerfeind RhizoLoc® is an anatomically designed thumb orthosis intended to stabilize the carpometacarpal (CMC) and metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints following injuries, ligament tears, sprains, or irritation. It is particularly suitable for conditions such as skier's thumb and osteoarthritis of the thumb's carpometacarpal joint, helping reduce unwanted movement and support recovery.

Featuring an individually adaptable aluminum stay, the RhizoLoc® provides targeted stabilization of the thumb saddle joint and MCP joint while maintaining functional movement of the remaining fingers. Its adjustable VELCRO® Brand fastening tab allows the degree of MCP joint movement restriction to be modified according to treatment requirements, providing flexibility for different stages of recovery.

The adjustable thumb strap accommodates individual thumb dimensions and helps maintain a secure, anatomically appropriate fit. Its breathable, perforated material promotes airflow and helps minimize moisture accumulation beneath the orthosis. The low-profile design and convenient fastening system make the RhizoLoc® easy to put on, remove, and wear during everyday activities.

INDICATIONS

• Lateral collateral ligament injuries of the first MCP joint, including skier's thumb
• Thumb sprains and ligament tears
• Acute or chronic irritation of the thumb CMC joint
• Acute or chronic irritation of the thumb MCP joint
• Osteoarthritis of the first carpometacarpal joint
• Conditions requiring controlled stabilization of the thumb following injury

SIZING & FIT

• Refer to the official Bauerfeind RhizoLoc® sizing guide and product measurement chart to select the appropriate size.
• Position the orthosis around the thumb and hand according to the manufacturer's fitting instructions.
• Ensure the aluminum stay supports the thumb saddle joint and MCP joint in the intended position.
• Secure the VELCRO® Brand fastening system around the hand and thumb.
• Adjust the thumb tab to achieve a secure, comfortable fit and the required level of movement restriction.
• Ensure the remaining fingers can move freely and that the orthosis does not create excessive pressure.
• Check that the thumb remains comfortably supported without numbness, tingling, or changes in circulation.
• Follow your healthcare professional's instructions regarding the degree of immobilization and wearing duration, particularly after ligament injuries or surgery.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

• Hand-wash separately using a mild detergent at a low temperature.
• Close all VELCRO® Brand fasteners before washing to help preserve their fastening performance and prevent damage.
• Clean gently and avoid harsh cleaning agents.
• Allow the orthosis to air-dry naturally.
• Do not expose the product to direct heat, including radiators or direct sunlight.
• Ensure the orthosis is completely dry before wearing it again.
