PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The Bauerfeind RhizoLoc® OA is a lightweight, anatomically designed thumb orthosis developed to immobilize and relieve the carpometacarpal (CMC) and metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints of the thumb. It is particularly suitable for individuals experiencing osteoarthritis of the first carpometacarpal joint (rhizarthrosis), arthritis, ligament instability, or discomfort following injuries or surgery.

Featuring a rigid, two-component plastic brace with a reinforced midsection, the RhizoLoc® OA holds the thumb in a defined functional position to reduce joint strain while guiding everyday grasping and pinching movements. Its slim construction allows the remaining fingers and wrist to move freely, supporting functional use of the hand during daily activities.

The orthosis combines adjustable fastening straps, a soft self-engaging thumb strap, and a breathable, perforated shell to provide a secure, individualized fit with enhanced wearing comfort. Rounded edges help minimize pressure points, while its practical fastening system allows easy application and removal using one hand. Designed for everyday use, the RhizoLoc® OA can also be worn in water when the thumb wraparound strap is removed, making it a convenient option for daily hand care and hygiene.

SIZING & FIT

• Measure the circumference of the wrist according to the official Bauerfeind RhizoLoc® OA sizing guide.
• Refer to the manufacturer's measurement chart to select the appropriate size.
• Position the rigid brace around the hand and wrist, ensuring the thumb is supported in the intended functional position.
• Secure the adjustable straps around the palm and wrist, ensuring a snug but comfortable fit.
• Fasten the soft thumb strap below the thumb's interphalangeal joint, leaving that joint free to move.
• Check that the orthosis provides stable support without excessive pressure or restricting circulation.
• Follow your healthcare professional's recommendations regarding wearing duration and joint immobilization, particularly following surgery or acute injury.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

• Close all fasteners before washing.
• Hand-wash the orthosis at 30°C using a mild detergent or washing-up liquid. All components can remain attached during washing.
• The textile thumb strap does not adhere properly when wet. Replace it with the supplied second wrapping tape while the original strap dries.
• Dry the orthosis with a towel or allow it to air-dry naturally.
• Do not tumble-dry the product.
• Do not expose the orthosis to direct heat, including radiators, direct sunlight, or excessive heat inside a vehicle, as this may damage the material and affect product performance.
• After wearing the orthosis in water, dry it thoroughly and reattach the thumb strap as instructed by the manufacturer.
• Regular cleaning and care help maintain the product's functionality and wearing comfort.
